WORLD NEWS: Prostitutes Riot After Red-Light Shutdown Bangladesh prostitutes have rioted after police prevented them re-opening a brothel in a red light area shut down two years ago.They threw bottles and rocks at a group of police officers who tried to stop them entering the brothel in Narayangunj, east of Dhaka.At least 20 prostitutes and five policemen were hurt during the hour-long confrontation.The prostitutes shouted "We want our place back" outside the locked iron gates of the building, where authorities evicted nearly 3,000 prostitutes in 1994. The brothel had been in business since 1876.Seven years ago, the Bangladesh government asked the prostitutes to give up their trade and offered them money to start small businesses such as poultry farming and tailoring.The women were evicted after they turned down the offer of a £275,000 rehabilitation fund.Maimuni, one of the prostitutes, explained their actions by telling the daily newspaper Jagruti: "Nobody is willing to accept a prostitute as a sister, daughter or a wife. We can never be treated as normal people, only objects of lust." JOKE FOR TODAY: UFO A flying saucer landed at a gas station on a lonely country road. The two space aliens inside seemed completely unconcerned about detection; in fact, the letters "UFO" were emblazoned in big, bold letters on one side of their shiny craft. As the station owner stood and gawked in silence, paralyzed with shock, his young, blonde attendant nonchalantly filled up the tank and waved to the two aliens as they took off. "Do you realize what just happened?" the station owner finally uttered. "Yeah," said the blonde attendant. "So?" "Didn't you see the space aliens in that vehicle?!" "Yeah," repeated the blonde. "So?" "Didn't you see the letters 'UFO' on the side of that vehicle?!" "Yeah," repeated the blonde attendant. "So?" "Don't you know what 'UFO' means?!" The blonde attendant rolled her eyes.
