We hope this will make PV contributor's lives a bit easier =) Yours, Jack WORLD NEWS: Pill May Become Available Over The Counter Women may soon be able to get the pill over the counter without repeat prescriptions from their doctor. The move is being looked at as part of a wide-ranging review of prescription practice. The Medicines Control Agency says oral contraceptives are among a list of drugs which could be subjected to a less restrictive regime. If the changes ere approved, women will still be required to see their doctor for an initial consultation, because of health risks linked to the pill. Once cleared to receive the drug, they would be able to go to any pharmacist to obtain further supplies. An MCA spokesman says the list was drawn up by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society as part of a consultation exercise also involving the agency and drug industry representatives. It is intended purely as an illustration of the kind of drugs which could be made more freely available, as proposed in the Government NHS Plan. No recommendations have yet been made. A streamlined process for the reclassification of prescription-only drugs is expected to be in place by April. From that point, it will be for manufacturers to request reclassification of their products, with oral contraceptives expected to be at the head of the queue. An MCA spokesman told the Independent on Sunday newspaper that the change would not mean more patients paying for their drugs. He said: "Any medicines which are currently available on NHS prescription will continue to be available by that route." TODAY'S JOKE: Do Old Ladies Get Horny?
