WORLD NEWS: Lifer asks permission to send semen to wife A prisoner in the US wants to be allowed to send semen to his wife so she can have his baby. William Gerber, who's serving a life sentence in a California prison isn't allowed conjugal visits. A court is deciding whether he has the right to procreate by sending semen to his 46-year-old wife, Evelyn. "All we're asking is for Mr Gerber to collect his sperm and somehow get it out of prison," his lawyer, Teresa Zuber, said during arguments at the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals in Phoenix. The judges didn't say when they would rule on the case. A decision favouring Gerber could open the door for women prisoners to assert their right to post their eggs so another woman could have their baby, the circuit court judges said during oral arguments. Judge Ronald Gould said it wasn't clear to him that there is a fundamental right to procreate in prison. The US Supreme Court has said prisoners have a right to marry and be free from forced sterilisation. Gerber was sentenced to life in prison under California's three strikes law for illegally firing a gun, making terrorist threats and using illegal drugs.
