Jack WORLD NEWS: Sex An Anti-Depressant Doctors in New York say sex is an anti-depressant. Researchers from New York University have found women who have unprotected sex frequently are less likely to be depressed than those who do not. They say it's down to mood-changing chemicals transferred from the man. Apparently men's semen contains hormones and other chemicals which get into women's bloodstream and may act like an anti-depressant. The research is being published in the Archives of Sexual Behaviour this week, reports The Independent on Sunday. Psychologists logged the sexual activities and depression scores of 300 women. They found women who had sex without condoms were less depressed than both women who had protected sex and women who abstained. They also found women who had unprotected sex became more depressed the longer they went without sex. Women having unprotected sex were less likely to try and kill themselves, with 4.5% of them attempting suicide compared to 13.2% of condom users and 13.5% of those who abstained. The report says: "As further evidence that sexual intercourse per se has no effect on depressive symptoms, it is important to note that depression scores for females who abstained from sex did not differ from those who were sexually active and using condoms." TODAY'S LAME JOKE: The Talkative Parrot A woman goes into a pet shop, immediately spotting a large colourful parrot. The price tag is $50 .00. "Why so little, sir?," she asks.
