The 36-year-old from Yokohama is suing Shobunsha Publications Inc to get his job back. A decision is expected shortly. A lawyer for the company says cross-dressing creates problems in the workplace. The Mainichi Daily News reports the man was sacked after agreeing to be transferred to another job only if he could be treated and dress like a woman. He says the company refused. He filed an injunction with the Tokyo District Court to prevent his termination and the paper says he was dismissed the following month. He said: "Treatments for gender disorder make things difficult in the workplace, causing me to be transferred against my will. Being a different gender to that listed on the family register makes it difficult to work as a full-time employee. I want to chip away at the current situation." Shobunsha's lawyer, Hiroyuki Kawai, said: "We can understand the difficulties involved in gender disorder. But it's difficult for the company to accept that a man it hired has suddenly become a woman. "Cross-dressing creates problems in the workplace and his condition of accepting the transfer only if he could be treated as a woman violates company regulations." The man's gender disorder was diagnosed in 2000. He has undergone counselling and hormone treatment. TODAY'S LAME JOKE: Appointments One night, as a couple lay down for bed, the husband gently taps his wife on the shoulder and starts rubbing her arm. The wife turns over and says: "I'm sorry honey, I've got a gynecologist appointment tomorrow and I want to stay fresh." The husband, rejected, turns over and tries to sleep.
