5.7 Million Liters Of Beer Consumed At Munich Beer Fest
MUNICH, Germany -- Beer consumption rose sharply and attendance also rose at this year's
Oktoberfest in Munich, officials said Monday at the end of the two-week event.
The world's biggest beer party drew 5.9 million visitors this year -- up from 5.5 million last year, when fears of terrorism following the Sept. 11 attacks in the U.S. were blamed for a big drop in attendance.
The city government said beer sales were up by one-fifth, with 5.7 million litres served since the festival opened on Sept. 21.
Chief organizer Gabriele Weishaeupl said that, while a wet first week hit some stallholders at the site -- a meadow near downtown Munich -- there was no sign that Germany's economic slowdown hit spending at the fair.

Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other man pulls out his phone and calls emergency services.
