Russians pay out a tenth of their salary in bribes?
Russians reportedly pay out more than 19 billion pounds a year in bribes, with the average person paying almost a tenth of their wages in bribes. The average Russian spends about £7 a month on bribes, according to Pravda. Bribery in the business sector runs to more than ten billion pounds, with everyday corruption among ordinary citizens estimated at two billion pounds. Among the bribes commonly offered are incentives for traffic police to avoid fines and legal action over Highway Code violations. Smaller amounts are offered for registering official documents, and health care workers are given incentives for good hospital care.
