You don't want to miss it!!! WORLD NEWS: Surgeon Operates on Wrong Side of Man's Brain A surgeon operated on the wrong side of a man's head because a scan was placed backwards on a viewing box. The man, who was suffering from bleeding on the brain, did not suffer any long term damage. The mix-up happened at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. After the surgeon drilled two holes in the left of the patient's skull and found no bleeding, the procedure was repeated on the right side, and the blood drained. The Rhode Island Department of Health concluded staff did not follow procedures such as making a final check and marking the operation site with a marker pen, reports the Providence Journal. Hospital spokeswoman Jane Bruno said: "The public puts an enormous amount of trust in our institution and we really take that very seriously. We do deeply regret that this incident occurred." The incident came to light, when the hospital's "plan of correction" was filed with the Health Department, making it a public document. As required by state law, the hospital informed the Health Department of the error the day after it occurred. The department conducted an investigation and cited the hospital for failing to follow its own policies on verifying the site of surgery. Six professionals involved in the incident - the surgeon, two surgical residents, the operating-room nurse, the operating-room technologist, and the certified registered nurse anaesthetist - have been referred to their licensing boards for investigation. TODAY'S JOKE: Mr. Jenkins A mortician was working late one night. It was his job to examine the dead bodies before they were sent off to be buried or cremated. As he examined the body of Mr. Jenkins, who was about to be cremated, he discovered the longest private part he had ever seen! "I'm sorry, Mr. Jenkins," said the mortician, "But I can't send you off to be cremated with a tremendously huge private part like this. It has to be saved for posterity." With that the coroner used his tools to remove the dead man's privates. The coroner stuffed his prize into a briefcase and took it home. The first person he showed was his wife.
