The court in Sao Paulo said the money would account for moral and material damage. The judge prohibited publication of the names of the bride and groom as this would cause further distress. Witnesses told the judge when the groom decided not to get married all the invitations had been sent out and the apartment where the couple were going to live had been redecorated. The bride also asked to be refunded for her wedding dress and the reception. The groom says he has no money and he is going to appeal. But when asked why he decided to break off the engagement he told Terra Noticias Populares newspaper it was a private matter.
